Ballet Photography
Our ballet photography sessions are suitable for dancers of all levels studying classical ballet and contemporary ballet. We offer a range of ballet photography styles, allowing us to tailor each session to suit your age, experience and individual needs, while creating a varied and dynamic set of images.
Ballet Photography and Your Dance Journey
Ballet photography captures meaningful moments of progress and achievement, creating a lasting record of a dancer’s journey.
For younger dancers, being in front of the camera can be a positive and confidence-building experience. It encourages a sense of pride in what they’ve accomplished, while also allowing them to see their technique from a new perspective.
For those pursuing ballet more seriously, professional images can play an important role in building a portfolio. They help document technique and can be used for auditions, applications, and future opportunities.
-
Every dancer is at a different stage of their ballet training, so the most suitable photography style can depend on your age, experience and confidence in front of the camera. We offer two different ballet photography styles, allowing us to choose an approach that is suitable for you and the type of photographs you would like to create.
-
The Traditional Ballet Photography package is generally recommended for younger dancers, or anyone who is less experienced or less confident in front of the camera. This style focuses more on ballet technique and form and provides a more structured approach to the shoot, giving dancers time to become comfortable in front of the camera.
As your confidence grows throughout the session, we can gradually introduce some of our more creative dance photography poses. This makes the Traditional Ballet Photography style a good starting point for dancers who may not have much experience in front of the camera, while still giving us the opportunity to create some more creative images towards the end of the shoot.
-
The Creative Ballet Photography package is designed for dancers who are currently studying classical or contemporary ballet and would like a more creative and collaborative photo shoot. It is particularly popular with older dancers and those returning for a second session, but can also be a great option for younger dancers who are comfortable working in front of the camera and would like to explore a more creative style of photography.
Unlike the Traditional Ballet Photography package, where I guide you through a more structured selection of ballet poses and positions, the Creative Ballet Photography package gives you more freedom to be involved in the creative direction of the shoot. We can look through a selection of pose guides together, allowing you to choose some of your favourite ballet poses and positions to try during the session.
The majority of the photographs will be taken in the studio against a clean white background, using a combination of traditional and more creative lighting techniques. This gives us the flexibility to create a varied collection of photographs while keeping the focus on your ballet technique and form.
As well as the main studio photographs, the shoot can also include additional photographs documenting your time in the studio. These can include photographs of you warming up, stretching and preparing before the main session, along with more relaxed ballet-themed portraits using the natural light and surroundings of the studio.
These behind-the-scenes photographs are a great way to document your time in the studio and provide an additional collection of images that you can share on your social media platforms.
-
We also offer Ballet School Application Photography, which can be added to any studio session. This option is ideal for dancers who require headshots and a selection of posed ballet photographs for ballet school applications or auditions.
